Ruth Marie Grossman, 91 years, of Denmark, Iowa died at 7:15 pmMonday, April 1, 2013 at the West PointCareCenter, West Point, Iowa.  She was born July 23, 1921 at St Paul, Iowa, a daughter of Henry and Sadie (Menke) Spiekermeier.  On June 1, 1944 at West Point, Iowa she married Floyd “Bud” Grossman.  He preceded her in death.

 

Ruth was a homemaker.  She was a member of Holy Family Parish and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Augusta, Iowa and of the Altar and Rosary Society.  She also belonged to the Plymouth Circle of the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ, and was a member of TOPS for many many years.   She enjoyed time with her family and friends, bowling leagues, playing cards, and taking care of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Randy (Tamara) Grossman, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Nancy Anderson, of Denmark, Iowa; one sister, Jeanette (Cletus) Bergthold, of Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren: Tami Box, Tennelle Anderson-Kuhn, Joshua Anderson, Wylie Grossman, and Hoyt Grossman; and six great  grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Orville Spiekermeier, and two sisters, Irene Lessenger and Delores Fedler.

 

Friends may call after 2:00 pmFriday, April 5, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 – 6:30 pm, Friday evening.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 amSaturday, April 6, 2013 at SacredHeartChurch, Fort Madison, Iowa with Reverend David Wilkening as Celebrant.  Burial will be at Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, Iowa.  A memorial has been established for Denmark Volunteer Fire Department and the Denmark Cemetery Association, and contributions may be made at the church or the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Online condolences to the Grossman family may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com.

 

Robert Joseph Hart, 91, of Burlington, died at 2:45 am Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born August 26, 1921, in Burlington at St. Francis Hospital, he was the son of August J. and Nell Wolf Hart. On October 2, 1954, he married Ina Mae Satterfield at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington. She died December 3, 2012.

 

Bob had worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 34 years.

 

He was a 1939 graduate of St. Paul High School.

 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II from July of 1942 until January of 1946.

 

He was a lifetime member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. He had belonged to the Knights of Columbus #568 for 73 years and was a 3rd degree knight. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Known as Mr. Fix-It, he enjoyed working on many family projects.

 

Survivors include four sons, Tom Hart of Burlington, Jim (Theresa) Hart of Roscoe, IL, Mark Hart of Waukesha, WI, and Gary (Patty) Hart of Urbandale, IA; one daughter, Pat (Evan) Hammer of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Sister Mary Caran Hart of Homer Glen, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill Hart, and one sister, Mary Applegate.

 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Hart will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 4, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant and Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere as the Concelebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

 

Memorials have been established for SS. John and Paul Catholic Church and Great River Hospice House.
