Tammy L. Howell, 55, of Burlington, died at 9:30 PM Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born January 7, 1958, in La Harpe, IL, she was the daughter of Walter and Mildred Davis Hoskins.

 

Tammy had worked as a shipping clerk for Borghi and later at Goodwill.

 

She received her associates degree from Southeastern Community College.

 

Her love and enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren.  

 

Survivors include one son, Mark  (Christa Tamborello) Burr of Burlington; four grandchildren, Kody Burr, Larry Burr, Isaac Bird, and Marion Bird; her mother, Mildred Winchel of Burlington; two brothers, Lonnie Henson and Bill Henson, both of Burlington; two sisters, Alberta  Keever and Lila Mathias, both of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews, including Melody Shimmin of Burlington.

 

She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, and one sister, Elaine Stewart.  

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

As per Tammy’s request, cremation will be entrusted to Thielen Crematory following the visitation.

 

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.

Lawrence Hauswirth, 79, of Morning Sun, died at 1:55 PM Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born July 4, 1933, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry and Gladys Stigge Hauswirth. On October 29, 1961, he married Dixie L. Darbyshire in Yarmouth, IA.

 

Lawrence worked at the Farm Service Elevator in Mediapolis for 23 years and had served as Streets Commissioner for the City of Mediapolis until he retired.

 

He was of the Lutheran faith.  He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, watching westerns, hunting, fishing, and was an avid gardener.  Most especially, he cherished time with his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Dixie; one son, Curtis Hauswirth of Morning Sun; one daughter, Cindy (Richard) Pfeiff of Morning Sun; three grandchildren, Dustin Pfeiff, Brady Pfeiff, and Kylene Hauswirth; two brothers, LeRoy Hauswirth of Sperry, and Floyd Hauswirth of Burlington; one sister, Virginia Robu of West Point; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Tammy Hauswirth.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The memorial service for Mr. Hauswirth will be 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery at a later date.

Lee Meck, 76, of Burlington, died at 5:46 pm Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born January 19, 1937, in Burlington, he was the son of Harold and Edna Gulick Meck. On February 14, 1959, he married Bonnie Darlene Samuelson in Atalissa, IA. She died August 18, 2011.

 

Lee worked for J.I. Case Company as a repairman for 30 years.

 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Cold War.

 

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579, and the American Legion. He was a family man and was very proud of his grandchildren. He loved going blackberry picking and mushroom hunting and enjoyed woodworking and NASCAR.

 

Survivors include one son, Rickey (Kathy) Meck of Denmark; three grandchildren, Kyle Meck, Matthew Meck, and Shawna Sylvester; one great-grandson, Hunter Coakley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Meck will be 1:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor D. Dean Benton officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) following the burial.
