IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Gov. Terry Branstad says he’s encouraged by the
improving flood conditions in eastern Iowa and the local efforts to respond.

Branstad told reporters in Iowa City on Monday that he was relieved by news
that Coralville Lake is no longer projected to go over its spillway. He says the
nice weather is helping dry out parts of the state.

Branstad spoke at the University of Iowa after he took an aerial tour over
eastern Iowa. He says he learned that the flooding in New Hartford in northeast
Iowa was not as bad as residents feared.

In Coralville, local officials told Branstad that their flood defenses were
holding back the Iowa River. And UI President Sally Mason told Branstad the
school had not suffered any damage to buildings.
