Chico Newman’s request for a new trial was denied this afternoon.
The reason behind the request comes from a juror, Jim Holtkamp, who felt guilty about the verdict. Holtkamp felt he was pressured by other jurors to make the decision he did. Judge John Linn’s reason for denying the request today…
“It’s simply improper to impeach a verdict after the fact, based on second thoughts.”
38-year-old Newman of Burlington was convicted of 1st degree murder earlier this month, for killing his wife Crystal over a year ago.
