Obituaries Monday September 30th

Maribeth Essex, 77, of Stronghurst, IL died at 10:28 AM Sunday, September 29, 2013, at the  Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born May 9, 1936, in Oquawka, IL, she was the daughter of Clifford S. and Nannie Hightower Essex.

 

Maribeth worked at Warren Achievement Sheltered Workshop in Monmouth, the Hub Restaurant and did baby sitting.

 

She was a graduate of G&O High School.  She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

 

She loved family gatherings, bible study, and attending  Faith Bible Church, embroidering, and many types of games.

 

Survivors include nephew, Jerry (Diane) Essex, niece, Jackie Holcher, nephew, Rick Essex, niece, Melody Blackburn, niece, Nannette Essex, nephew, Lance Essex, niece, Wanda Cook, and nephew, David Essex.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers, Allen, Dale, Jim, Bill.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Faith Bible Church of Oquawka

 

The memorial service for  Essex will be 7:00 PM Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Faith Bible Church of Oquawka with Pastor Mark Baker officiating.  Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery at a later date.

 

A memorial has been established to Faith Bible Church in Oquawka.

Mary B. Renshaw Nelson, 85, of Burlington, died at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born September 10, 1928, in Adair, IL, she was the daughter of Emanuel and Dobie Seymour. On November 13, 1947, she married Melvin L. “Bear” Renshaw.  He died July 27, 1990.  On May 7, 1993, she married Lewis Dudley Nelson in Wapello, IA.

 

Mary had worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Vista Bakery.

 

She was of the Methodist faith and a member of V.F.W. Post 9162 Auxiliary.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, going to garage sales, casinos, and the Mississippi River where she watched the boats, and the Great River Medical Center where she enjoyed watching the geese.

 

Survivors include her husband, Lewis; two sons, Danny (Barb) Renshaw of Panama City, FL, Richard (Rita) Renshaw of Burlington; one daughter, Deborah (Pat Reeder) Graham of Wapello; two step-sons, Danny (Victoria) Nelson of Indianapolis, IN, and Randy Nelson of Evansville, IN; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two sisters, Louise Wetzel of Bloomington, IL, and Anna Marie Lybarger of Carthage, IL; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Belva Birch.

 

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.

 

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Nelson will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be in Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville, IL.

 

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
