UPDATED: Mt. Pleasant St. Overpass in Rough Shape

Repair it, replace it, or shut it down.

Those are the options facing the Burlington City Council, whose members got a picture-book look at the Mt. Pleasant Street overpass last night.

City Engineer Steve Hartman, began the report by putting things in a recent perspective…

“About this time last year, that bridge had received 18 priority points in the states scoring system. There were about 57 bridges ahead of ours in scoring that would receive that million dollar bridge grant. We believe only about 20 were funded. So we’re probably about 2 years out based on funding levels.”

Consultant Steve Kunz, told the council it would take 3-3.4 million dollars to repair it or replace it, money the city simply doesn’t have.
