Burlington, Iowa is now officially a Regional Sports Authority District.
What this means, is that the city received a $50,000 state grant to market and promote sporting events in the community. Nine events have partnered with the Greater Burlington Sports Commission this year, and will receive a portion of the grant.
Executive Director of Greater Burlington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Beth Nickel, says those events bring a lot of money to our area…
“Those nine events have a combined attendance of over 2,500 people and the economic impact to our community based on those events is over $3.8 million. Sports is a very important market for our community and i think we’ll continue to see that market grow.”
Some of the sporting events will attract people nation wide.
Only 10 communities in Iowa are made a Regional Sports Authority District, but it’s an annual process and must be applied for each year to maintain that status.
