Heinz to Close Plants in South, North & West, but Not in Muscatine

(AP) – H.J. Heinz Co. is closing three plants in North America and cutting 1,350 jobs in an effort to operate more efficiently.

The plants are in South Carolina, Idaho and Canada.  The good news is that Heinz says it’ll shift production from these locations to other existing facilities in the U.S. and Canada, adding 470 postions in those factories, including its Muscatine operation.

Heinz was acquired and taken private by Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital earlier this year.
