PAW Shelter Full, Needs Donations

Cold winter weather is here and what that means for area animal shelters, is that they’re full.

Sandy Brown, Director of the PAW Animal Shelter in Fort Madison, says just that…

“I always have too many. Right now I have about 75 dogs and 55 cats.”

Running the shelter isn’t cheap, so the PAW shelter holds can and bottle fundraisers all year long, the next one coming up tomorrow in the parking lot of Southeastern Community College…

“Any animal you adopt from our shelter is fully vetted. Our vetting bill averages about $150,000 a year.”

The shelter still owes $8,000 on their vet bill, and hopes they can get it paid off by the end of the year.

At the drive this Saturday from 10am-2pm at SCC, not only can you recycle your cans and bottles, you can make a donation to the no-kill PAW shelter in Fort Madison.
