-50° Wind Chills Heading Our Way

Parts of Iowa had wind chill levels of 25-below-zero this morning  and forecasters say it’ll get even colder in a few days.

Meteorologist Kevin Skow, at the National Weather Service office in Johnston, says bitter cold air is in an approaching front…

“Thankfully, we’ll see a little bit of a brief warm-up here for Friday but then we’re looking for another shot of cold air coming in Sunday into Monday.”

While this morning’s wind chill indices were wickedly cold, unfortunately, it can always get worse…

“Wind chills early next week look to be pretty frighteningly cold,” Skow says. “They are looking for values anywhere from minus-30 to minus-50 at times. It looks like one of the coldest spells in quite a long time here in Iowa.”

There is one plus, Skow says it’ll be so cold that very little snow is expected
