Obituaries Friday March 7th

Roy Neil Cooper Jr., 59, of Des Moines, died at 8:40 AM Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home.

 

Born September 28, 1954, in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Roy Neil and Edna Smith Cooper.

 

Roy worked as an Electrician, working in construction.

 

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

 

He enjoyed watching football and was a supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

 

Survivors include his father, Roy Neil Cooper Sr. of Kirkwood, IL; two brothers, Ronald Cooper of Topeka, KS, and Gary Cooper of Monmouth, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

There will be no visitation or services.

 

Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory is in care of the arrangements.

Mark Alan Schnell, age 47, of Wapello and formerly of Muscatine, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  The son of Roger and Karen Bjornson Schnell, he was born on September 26, 1966 in Clarion, Iowa.  Mark married Christine Marie Laughlin on February 11, 1993 in Wapello.

He graduated from L & M High School, served in the US Army for 4 years and attended Muscatine Community College.  Mark was a forklift operator for All Steel in Muscatine.  He enjoyed computer activities, board games, bingo, and gambling.

His family includes his ex-wife, Christine; a son, Mark Schnell, II and his fiancée Nicole Burke of Muscatine; his father, Roger Schnell of Wapello; his mother, Karen Schnell of Columbus Junction; two brothers, Roger & Cheryl Schnell of Columbus Junction and Rich & Jenn Schnell of Columbus Junction; and a sister, Carol & Telly Zuniga of West Branch.

Cremation is chosen and there will be a private celebration of life gathering.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made.
