SCC to Turn Earth for Science Center; Still Awaiting Affordable Bids

Southeastern Community College will break ground on its main (West Burlington) campus this(Mon) afternoon for a 10-million dollar Health Professions Center, even though the school hasn’t awarded a contract for the building yet.

SCC officials say the project will house the latest training equipment and facilities in the health-care industry, including patient simulation labs…a SCALE-UP classroom…EMT training ambulance simulation room…faculty offices…and student study spaces. The ceremony is at 4:30 and the public is invited.

At the same time, the college has been awarded a $578,000 U-S Department of Labor grant; the money to be used to buy training equipment…like patient simulation mannequins and beds. It’ll also make it possible for SCC to hire a full-time project director and a full-time simulation coordinator to maintain and operate the equipment and to help fully integrate use of the mannequins into the program curriculum.
