The West Burlington Police Department says that there is no danger to students following a violent threat made online against a Southeastern Community College Professor.

SCC students were informed of the threat through the emergency alert system this morning and are told to be alert for suspicious activity.

SCC Marketing and Communications director Jeff Ebbing says that the threat was posted to the social sharing site ratemyprofessors.com.

“We found the information out late [Tuesday] afternoon. A moderator from ratemyprofessors.com had something flagged…and when they looked at it they thought it was concerning enough to contact us. When we got the information the first thing we did was contact the West Burlington Police Department and get them involved,” Ebbing told KBUR.

SCC officials are working with the West Burlington Police Department as well as ratemyprofessors.com to track down who made the threat.

“The professor has been notified. It wasn’t pointed towards any student [or the student body], it was just a comment made to a professor. We’re just telling everyone to be aware of what’s going on around them and report any funny activity,” said WBPD Lieutenant Richard Hand.

The identity of the threatened professor or details about the exact nature of the threat have not been released.
