Obituaries Friday March 13th

Darrell A. Long, 70, of New London, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 16, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Pastor Brad Cranston will officiate.  Burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery, rural Mt. Union, with Military Rites presented by the Henry County Honor Guard.  Visitation will begin after noon on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. A memorial has been established.

 

Mrs. Kathleen Ann (Barnes) Johnson, 71, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 4:38 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.

Kathy was born on January 25, 1944 in Low Point, IL the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Barnes. On June 21, 2002 she married David W. Johnson in Tama, IA, he survives.

She worked at Exide in Burlington, IA for many years. She retired from Mercy Care Center in Cedar Rapids, IA where she worked as a CNA. She and her husband moved from Elberon, IA to Dallas City in 2011. She was a member in the Dallas City Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Kathy enjoyed collecting rocks, designing rock gardens, decorating her home, being outdoors and especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, one son, Robert (Phyllis) Porter of Wever, IA, two daughters, Debbie (Charlie) Newman of Dallas City and Wendy (Mike) Porter of New London, IA, four step-daughters, Heidi (Chad) Chalmers of Mogadore, OH, Amy (J.P.) Dillingham of Milan, IL, Colleen Johnson of Burlington and Holly Johnson of Burlington, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Janet (Larry) Stoneking of Crest Hill, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Michael Barnes.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will be held at Gittings Mound Cemetery near Dallas City. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City followed by a vistitation with the family until 6:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. Maria Brielle Hand of Burlington was stillborn on Monday 3/9 at the Great River Medical Center.

She is survived by her parents, Jessy Hand and Kathleen Rhum, a brother Josiah, Paternal grandparents Tami Rogers of Danville and Darrin Hand of Middletown, Maternal grandmother Rosemary Rhum of Burlington  and Paternal great grandparents Jim and Patricia Hand of Middletown.

Funeral services will be held at 7PM Saturday 3/14 at Lunning Chapel with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the time of service.

 

Richard Mauer, 78, Burlington died Monday 3/9 at his home.

He is survived by his wife Betty, 2 sons, Gary of Grundy Center and Richard of Waterloo, 3 daughters, Kristine Mauer of Des Moines, Diane Maki of Richfield, MN and Susan Corpman of Newhall, Iowa and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Saturday March 14th at Lunning Chapel with burial in the Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon Friday 3/13 with the family receiving friends from 5-8 PM at Lunning Chapel.
