West Avenue shut down for traffic for about an hour on Thursday evening as spectators lined the Avenue for the Burlington High School Homecoming Parade.
All the schools in the district joined in the homecoming parade and so did numerous school clubs. It was a beautiful sunset fighting against the storm clouds as the Burlington High School Marching Band ushered in first, the queen and king candidates then the high school cheerleaders followed by the football players.There was plenty of candy being thrown out or at the many spectators stretched out along West Avenue.
All week, Burlington High School has been gearing up for Friday evening’s Homecoming Football game against Davenport North. It started out with Powder Puff football last Sunday and throughout the week the high schoolers participated in a variety of themed events including Jinks Day were the students wore the colors of the rival school. After the parade there is a carnival in the high school parking lot followed by a pep assembly and they will close out the events with a bon-fire. The homecoming dance is Saturday night.
