Last night’s Burlington City Council meeting went off without a hitch despite an anonymous emailed bomb threat that cause police to beef up security at city hall.
The threats were sent by the same email address Monday afternoon to three of the city councilmen. The emails were about two sentences long, all of them slightly different, but each of them referencing an “explosion” or a “bomb” at the “city council building”. No specific dates or times were mentioned in the messages. Burlington Police Chief Doug Beaird spoke before the meeting Monday, which they decided to continue with, despite the threat.
“We’ve notified the FBI cybercrimes division…We’re looking in to try to figure out where those threats come from. We’re taking these threats seriously,” Beaird said Monday.
There was no clear motive to the messages. The meeting concluded without any violent disturbance.
