Mayor Pro Temp Anderson Recognized During Her Final Council Meeting

Burlington Mayor Pro Temp Becky Anderson was recognized during Monday Night’s City Council meeting, her last as a member of the council.

Anderson first came on the Council four years ago, right around the time that the Council learned that the city was nearing bankruptcy.

“It wasn’t pleasant in the beginning but I’m glad I did it.” Anderson said in her closing speech, “When [Mayor Shane McCampbell and I] first came on, I feel like it was Burlington’s lowest point and that we helped bring it up. Thank you everyone for the past four years.”

She was presented with a plaque, certificate, and a pair of Velvet Gloves, a reference to her Mayorally-bestowed nickname, “The Velvet Glove”.

Anderson opted not to run for re-election during the November General Election. She’ll be replaced on the council by Antoinette Wilson in January.
