Obituaries Thursday February 18th

Peggy Ann Ell, 73, of Burlington, died peacefully Tuesday, February 16, 2016, surrounded by her family at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Born December 29, 1942, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Arthur and Dorothy Louise Nelson. On April 9, 1961, she married William Leo Ell in Mason City, Iowa.
Peggy was a homemaker, attorney and an avid volunteer.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1960. She attended Patricia Stevens Fashion School, Southeastern Community College, Iowa Wesleyan and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School all after only 5 1/2 years.
She was an active member of the Player’s Workshop.  She enjoyed reading, collecting paper dolls and doll houses.  She enjoyed vacationing in Sanibel Island, FL and she cherished time with her family in her back yard swimming pool.
Survivors include her husband, Bill of Burlington; her mother, Dorothy Louise Nelson of Burlington; four sons, Bill (Candace Collins) Ell, Jr. of Burlington, Tony (Joann Thomas) Ell of West Point,  Bennett (Melissa) Ell of Burlington, Tracy (Wendy) Ell of Columbia, MO; one daughter, Tina (Dave) Wahlert of Anita, IA; ten grandchildren, Nick, Zack, Tanner, Alec, Matt, Brookelyn, Christian, Suzy, Kamryn, Rhoan; one great-grandchildren, Adalynn; one sister, Marilyn Bachtel of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, one sister, Beverly and one brother, Larry.
Open visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.  There will be no family visitation.
The Celebration of Life for Peggy will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service. A time of food and friendship will be held at Big Muddy’s where the family will receive friends following the service.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials have been established for Friends of the Library and the Player’s Workshop.

Pauline Idell Dreckmeier, 92, of West Burlington, died at 4:47 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born March 12, 1923, in Baring, MO, she was the daughter of John C. and Mary A. Whalen Howard. On August 12, 1944, she married Martin Fred Dreckmeier in Burlington. He died October 20, 2000.
Pauline was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Aunt.
She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.  Her joys were her Catholic faith, her beautiful gardens, camping, fishing, her Iowa Hawkeyes, watching golf, and attending her children and grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include seven sons, Harold “Buz” (Vicki) Dreckmeier, John M. (Jean) Dreckmeier, Paul L. (Cindy) Dreckmeier, Thomas R. Dreckmeier, James J. (Micki) Dreckmeier all of Burlington, Mark A. (Kelli) Dreckmeier of Carrollton, TX, and, Terry “Scott” (Angela) Dreckmeier of Overland Park, KS; two daughters, Sandra K. (Ray) Ball and Mary A. (Gary) Walsh both of Burlington; 22 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald L. Dreckmeier, one step-son, Martin  F. Dreckmeier, Jr., one brother, Johnnie V. Howard, and three sisters, Noema V. Colyer, Mary F. Noble and Annabell C. Stamper.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016, at  Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Dreckmeier will be 9:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bill Roush as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Dr.Kerri Anne Mowen, age 41 of San Diego, CA, passed away Sunday February 14, 2016 at her home. She was born May 19, 1974 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald and Renee Baxter Mowen.
Kerri was a 1992 graduate of Porta High School in Petersburg, IL. In 1996, she received a degree in Biology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. In 2000, she received a Doctorate Degree from the University of California in San Diego. In 2004, she received a Post Doctorate Fellowship from Harvard University. While at Harvard, she studied molecular and cellular immunology. From January of 2005 until December of 2015, she was an immunologist for Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, and most recently, was Scientific Co-founder and Director of Biology at Padlock Therapeutics in San Diego. Dr. Mowen was an innovative biologist and an exceptional scientific leader. While a faculty member at the Scripps Research Institute, she was awarded the Donald and Delia Baxter Foundation Young Career Scientist award and was also named the Hulda Irene Duggan Arthritis Investigator by the Arthritis Foundation.
Kerri loved reading, scuba diving, traveling, running in marathons, golfing, and children. She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her parents, Ron and Renee Mowen of Savoy, IL, her grandmother, JoAnne Baxter of Stronghurst, one brother, Brandon (Laura) Mowen of Cadis, KY, two nieces, Morgan and Hope Howard of Cadis, KY and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Harry Baxter, and Robert and Maxine Mowen.
A private family service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday February 19, 2016 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Raritan, IL. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Sterling R. Adams, 91, of rural Blandinsville, IL passed away at 3:38 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe.
He was born November 11, 1924 in Henderson County, IL, the son of Willis and Reva Mustain Adams. On June 12, 1949 he married Joanne Wyatt. She preceded him in death on April 15, 1965. On August 8, 1971 he married Barbara Ann Argenbright Fowler. She survives.
Mr. Adams attended various country schools and high school in both Terre Haute, IL and Blandinsville. He farmed the family farm from the age of 17 until retiring in 2000. He never lived farther than 5 miles from his birthplace.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, 2 daughters, Susan Brueck of Burlington, IA and Sherry Tilling of Macks Creek, MO, 2 step-sons, Kevin Karl Fowler and Kurt Jerome Fowler, both of Monmouth, IL, 6 grandsons, 1 special granddaughter, Brandy Parsons, who Sterling helped raise, 6 step-granddaughters, 1 step-grandson and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne, 3 sons, Terry Lee, Reggie Jo and Jeffrey Lynn Adams and 1 sister, Betty Stevenson.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Nate McCarter officiating. Burial will be in the Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Friday.
