Obituaries Monday April 25th

Gary L. Adair, 74, of Hot Springs, AR, died on Sunday, April 17, 2016, in Hot Springs, AR.

 

Born December 13, 1941, in Burlington, he was the son of Earl Laverne and Virginia  Doris Anderson Adair. On April 1, 1972, he married Judy Reid in Venison, TX.

 

Gary worked in the Marine Industry where he spent his entire career in sales and marketing.

 

He was a graduate of Burlington High School where he participated in the swimming and track and field programs.  He received his Bachelor of Science of  Degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

 

After college he entered the Marine Industry where he spent his entire career in sales and marketing.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and enjoyed being in the great outdoors.  In his later years his greatest joy was staying in touch with his many long term friends from all over the country.

 

Survivors include his wife, Judy Reid Adair; one brother, Dick (Olivia) Adair of Urbandale, IA; one nephew, David (Shawna) Adair of Springfield, MO; and three great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and Virginia Adair and his grandparents, Earl and Anna Perdue Adair.

 

The family will receive friends, on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM  at the Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home and Crematory.

 

The memorial service for Gary Adair will be 11:00 AM  Friday, April 29, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory following the service.  A private family burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of choice.

Phyllis G. Decker, 89, of Ottumwa, formerly of West Burlington, died at 8:50 PM Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Hospice House of Davis and Wapello Counties in Ottumwa.

 

Born August 1, 1926, in Joy, IL, she was the daughter of Clarence and Beulah Nesbitt Weeks. On March 25, 1944, she married Cletus  L. (Pete)  Decker in Rock Island, Illinois. He died April 2, 2011.

 

In 1962, she and Pete moved to Grundy Center where they operated NAPA Auto Parts store, they went on to farm in Grundy County outside of Holland;she worked for Grundy National Bank and J.C. Penney. In 1995, she and Pete moved to West Burlington where they became very active members in the West Burlington Christian Church.

 

Family was a vital part of Phyllis’ life, known as Beck by closest relatives. She eagerly looked forward to family gatherings. She was a lifelong seamstress; she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed cooking desserts, especially apple dumplings. She was a member of a local bowling league, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and sold MaryKay products.

 

Survivors include her three daughters Judi (Don) Judge of Stanfield, NC, Shirley (Ron) Jarzombek of Mechanicsville and Sally (Mark) Garner of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren, Tami, Valerie, Shari, Debi, Rob, Randy, Ben, Chris, and Faith; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Broeg of Aledo, IL; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son in infancy, Curtis; five brothers; and two sisters.

 

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory where the family will receive friends.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Decker will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Chris Church officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be in Aledo, Il at 3:00 PM.

 

Memorials have been established for Hospice House of Wapello and Davis Counties and Blessing Soup Kitchen in Ottumwa.

Rita Gail Decker, 68, of West Burlington, died at 6:03 AM Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Burlington Care Center.

 

Born April 24, 1947, in Colgate, OK, she was the daughter of J.W. McMillen and Violet Verita Beaty. She married James Clifford Musgove in 1954, they were married 17 years and later divorced. Following her divorce, she was married to Kenny Garrison until his death.

 

She enjoyed spending her time outdoors in her yard and tending to her garden; she also enjoyed bird watching, particularly hummingbirds. She enjoyed garage sales, was an excellent artist and had a great sense of humor. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas; but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Tina Musgrove of West Burlington, Lorraine Kirk of Burlington, and Pamela Jane Martinez, Jr. of Burlington; sister-in-law, JoAnn Couch of Ellsworth, KS; two brothers, Cody Dale (Kathy) Couch of Wilson, KS and David Wayne (Jerilyn) Couch of Russell, KS; and seven nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenny; and one Brother, Donald Dean Couch.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

 

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on May 21, 2016 in Burlington. Burial will be in Kanopolis, KS at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
