Obituaries Tuesday April 26th

Eric J. Liles, 51, of Mediapolis, died at 9:30 AM Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Great River Hospice House.

 

Born July 31, 1964, in Muscatine, he was the son of Marvin Carl and Brenda Jo Harris Liles. On August 14, 1998, he married Melissa Jo Hall in Burlington.

 

Eric was a miner for USG for 26 years.

 

He enjoyed spending his time outdoors farming, fishing, hunting, riding around on four wheelers (ATV), camping, snowmobiling and vacationing with family.

 

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Cody Joe Liles and Hunter Lee Liles both of Mediapolis; his mother; two brothers, Brad (Michelle) Liles of TX, Kevin Liles of Burlington; four nieces; seven nephews; four great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Carl Liles; paternal grandparents, Hershel & Hazel Liles; and maternal grandparents, Harold & Marie Harris.

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2016 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Liles will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.

Jane Ludemann Edwards, age 71, of Burlington, died on Sunday, April 24, 2016.

 

Born as Susan Winters on April 28, 1944 in Marshalltown , IA to her birth mother, Helen Winters, she was adopted by John Alfred Ludemann and Ermyl Rowe.

 

Jane graduated Cedar Falls High School in 1962 and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, where she graduated in 1969.  She would later receive her Masters Degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

 

She married Michael Edwards of Niantic, CT in 1969 and together they raised two children, Stephanie and Kyle.  After their divorce she returned to Iowa and became active in the community.  She served 20 years as a school psychologist for Great Plains Area Education Agency working with schools throughout SE Iowa.  She also served during that time on the Foster Care Review Board.

 

Jane was an active member of the local Unitarian-Universalist Congregation, serving as Congregational President on two separate occasions. She was very active in the local Pagan community, and was a founding member of Spirit Web and the local Pagan Fest.  She enjoyed visiting Native American reservations and helping with service projects there and learning of their culture and spirituality.  Her travels took her to much of North America and into Europe, but some of her most precious memories were of motorcycle trips to Sturgis and summers spent with fellow Pagans at Circle Sanctuary’s Pagan Spirit Gathering.

 

Jane is survived by her daughter Stephanie (Ervin) Kearney and her son, Kyle, both of Burlington, her sister Ann (Steve) Trulin of Englewood, FL, and several grandchildren: Brian (Maria) Smith, Tyler Duca, Tae-Lor Kearney, Sophie Edwards, Kiana Luna Kearney, a nephew Erik Trulin and a niece Sigrid (Brian) Corcoran.

 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her birth mother and both adoptive parents, and a long time male friend Robert “Swanny” Swanson.

 

She is remembered by many, many people who found her to be their adopted grandmother, crone, mentor, and friend.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Unitarian-Universalist Meeting House.

 

The memorial service for Ms. Edwards will be 2:00 PM Sat urday, April 30, 2016, at Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship with Richard Johnson officiating.
