Obituaries Wednesday April 27th

Edward “Gene” James, 64, of Burlington, died at 3:03 PM Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Great River Medical Center, ICU.

 

Born December 8, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles Edward James and Katherine Barnes.

 

Gene was a commercial cook, one of his favorite places to cook was at the Burlington Hotel.

 

He graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1969.

 

He was a faithful member of the Union Baptist Church Full Gospel Fellowship and enjoyed attending church.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching movies and wrestling.

 

Survivors include three sisters, Vicki Gipson, Charlotte James, Arlene Martin all of Burlington; one brother, Troy Robinson of Des Moines; his second mother, Ms. Liz Robinson of Burlington; several nieces, nephews; and many good friends..

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Linda Harris, and one brother, Clifford Gipson Jr.

 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Prugh’s Chapel.

 

The funeral service for Mr. James will be 1:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2016, at Union Baptist Church Full Gospel Fellowship with Reverend Lawrence L. Manson officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at Union Baptist Church Full Fellowship Gospel following the burial.

 

A memorial has been established for the Union Baptist Church Full Gospel Fellowship.

Verta Marie Moon, age 88, of Wapello, died Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016, at Wapello Specialty Care.  The daughter of James Edmond and Edith Pearl Rittgers Bloomer, she was born on June 17, 1927 in Des Moines.  She married William H. Moon on December 19, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on December 5, 2004.

 

She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1945 and from Moody Bible Institute Christian Education in December of 1947.  She was active in the churches her husband pastored.  Verta Marie was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church, served as the librarian, enjoyed singing in the choir, taught Sunday School and VBS and worked in various positions in the AWANA Program.  She enjoyed music and playing the piano, photography, reading, and travelling.

 

Her family includes four children, Beth Ann & Raymond Moon-Gabet of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Bill & Brigette Moon of Cottonwood, California, Mary & Edwin Chavez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Daniel & Rebecca Moon of Aurora, Illinois,; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Coleen Bloomer of Mesa, Arizona.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; and a granddaughter, Christina.

 

The funeral ceremony for Verta Marie Moon will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Grandview Community Bible Church, officiated by Rev. Darryl Erickson.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery with a fellowship lunch to follow at the church.

 

Friends may call on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Dudgeon-McCulley

Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

 

Memorial Gifts will benefit the Grandview Community Bible Church and the Moody Bible Institute.
