Lee County has recently elected a new sheriff and a new drug task force commander has been named to replace Stacy Weber as he transitions in his new role as sheriff.

Weber who is currently serving as the commander of the Lee County Narcotics Task Force will be sworn in as the new Lee County Sheriff on January 1st and as such, Weber on Tuesday named Keokuk Assistant Chief of Police Jay Whitaker as the new Lee County Narcotics Taskforce commander effective December 1st.

Weber says that Whitaker was a natural choice as “Whitaker has served in an undercover capacity for some time and his experience then and his service to the citizens…is unmatched by anyone.”

Weber adds that as sheriff he will continue to serve on the Board of Control and will make himself available to Whitaker during the transition.
