The one time Burlington Bees fan Juanita Kirby decided to miss a game and go out on the Mississippi River is the day she was announced as the winner of the Community Basket drawing.

Assistant General Manager Kim Parker was particularly excited when Miss Burlington Cheyenne Prowant handed her the winning ticket that revealed her former Burlington High School Spanish teacher was the winner.

“This is really neat,” she said. “Because sometimes we’ve never seen the winner before, but she’s, like, an absolute regular here at the ballpark.”

Although Kirby was alerted on the phone by a friend that she is the winner, KBUR was unable to reach her for her reaction. One thing is known: She is now $10,000 richer and has $20,000 worth of prizes in her possession.

Every dollar spent on the $2.00 tickets goes to about 20 participating charities in the community; the other half goes toward administrative and marketing costs, as well as the $10,000 prize.

A spokesperson for the event stated the will not know how much money was raised for another week.
