Francis Merle (Bud) Moser passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on June 15, 2017 at the age of 94. He died after a week at the Hospice House from complications of pneumonia.
Francis Merle (Bud) Moser was born March 7, 1923 in Kingston, Iowa to William Moser and Myrtle Nichols Moser Houston, the 4th of 5 children.
Bud was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School. He served in WWII in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate. He graduated from Collins Radio School in Chicago with an electronics technician degree.
Upon discharge from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Arline Jean Dideriksen, on April 20, 1946 in Burlington, IA. They were married 46 years when Arline passed on Nov. 28, 1993. They lived most of their married life in the home they built on Charrette Lane in Burlington. They have two children, David Moser and Carol Moser Sage-Younkin.
Bud and Arline had their own television retail and service business for 33 years on Osborn Street called Bud’s Magnavox. He became known as “Bud, The TV Man” all over Burlington.
He had a knack for being able to fix just about anything. If Bud couldn’t fix it, nobody could. He could turn trash into treasure with just a hammer, nails and a saw.
He loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed spending time outdoors in his yard. What he didn’t enjoy was picking up all those walnuts that fell from his 25 black walnut trees!
He also loved music, especially country and gospel music, and enjoyed listening to it every day because it reminded him of his country boy roots and his love for the Lord.
Spending time with his family was the thing Bud loved most in life. He attended every event his kids and grandkids were in, always cheering them on in all their activities.
Bud loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart. He and Arline were very active in West Avenue Baptist Church where Arline’s grandfather was one of the founding fathers. The church was Bud’s second family, and he served WABC as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, building committee chairman, financial chairman and choir member.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arline Dideriksen Moser, his parents, William Moser and Myrtle Nichols Moser Houston, his 3 brothers, William (Pete) Moser, Harold Moser, Leslie Moser and his sister, Edna Moser Maciel.
Bud Moser is survived by the following family members: a son – David Moser and wife, Judy, of Burlington, IA; a daughter – Carol Moser Sage-Younkin and husband, Marty Younkin, of Dallas, TX; 3 grandchildren – Scott Moser and wife, Tina, of Frontenac, KS; Brian Moser and wife, Sarah, of Lenexa, KS; Jaime Christofferson and husband, Chris of Burlington, IA; 3 step grandchildren – Carissa, Charlton and Clayton Younkin, all of Dallas, TX; 4 great-grandchildren – Brandon, Elizabeth, Zachary and Ashlyn Moser, all of KS; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 18th from 6 – 8 p.m. at West Avenue Baptist Church. The service for Bud Moser will be Monday, June 19th, at 10:30 a.m. also at West Avenue Baptist Church. A dinner will be served for family and friends immediately following the service at Westwood Center behind the church. Everyone is welcome. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery following the luncheon. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for West Avenue Baptist Church, Bud’s beloved church home, where he served the Lord Jesus Christ with his whole heart. To sum up Bud’s beliefs in a nutshell: “Only one life ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” Welcome home, my good and faithful servant!
