Olive Verline Garrett, 84, of Burlington, died at 3:30 AM Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at her home.

Born June 27, 1933, in Lewistown, MO, she was the daughter of Dela Walker. On January 18, 1970, she married Richard William Garrett in Las Vegas, NV. He died March 24, 2001.

Verline sold furniture for Frank’s Furniture and worked for Walker’s Nursing Home in Kahoka, Missouri.

She was a 1951 graduate of Colusa High School.

She attended Bethany Lutheran Church and West Burlington Methodist Church. She was a member of the Moose, Eagles, and Eastern Star.

Survivors include two half brothers, Leland Brewster of Des Moines, IA, and Laverne Brewster of Quincy, IL; along with several caregiver friends of Burlington.

Besides her husband, Richard Garrett, she was preceded in death by her mother and one sister, Lenora May Brewster.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

There will be no formal visitation or services.

Bill Stewart, 74, of Mount Pleasant, died at 3:10 PM Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born June 18, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Lloyd William and Frances Manley Stewart.

Bill worked for General Electric for 10 years and then worked for Hagerla’s Grocery Store in West Burlington.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his brother, Jim Stewart of New London, sister, June (Paul) Oge of Peoria, IL, and sister-in-law, Geneva Stewart of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Paul and Jack Stewart, two sister-in-laws, Chooja and Charlotte Stewart, and two sisters, Pearl Gipe and Jean Connelly.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Stewart will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Delores “Dee” L. Harrison, 79, of Dallas City, IL, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2017 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe, IL.

Dee was born in Burlington, IA, July 2, 1938 the daughter of Ralph and Mabel Sheckler Janssen.
Dee is survived by her husband, Charles Harrison of 56 years. They were married in Burlington, IA on October 7, 1960.
 
After graduating high school, Dee went on to become a Registered Nurse. She worked in Burlington, IA and LaHarpe, IL hospitals and later became a seasonal nurse in Fort Myers, FL.

Dee always loved the sunshine and enjoyed visiting the Florida beaches and California weather. She also enjoyed baking everyone’s favorite treats and spending quality time with her family.

Dee was the loving mother of Theresa Marsden and husband Kirby, of Burlington, IA, Brent Harrison of Dallas City, IL, Cheri Stevens and husband David of Dallas City, IL, Julie Nudd and husband David of Dallas City, IL, and Stacie Harrison of Bonita Springs, FL. Dee also is survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her sister Jeannette Schindall and late husband Richard (Dick) of Bettendorf, IA.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mabel Janssen, one sister, Shirley Waldorf, and one grandson, Ryan Marsden.

A private graveside will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, IA. A memorial fund has been established for the Organ Transplant Support Group, Inc.-Fletcher Trust Fund. Address: 1110 NE 2nd Place, Cape Coral, Fl, 33909. The Fletcher Fund was established in 2004 to assist transplant recipients for medications and medical expenses in Southwest Florida. Eric William Massner, age 94, of Mediapolis, died Sunday morning, August 6, 2017, at the Prairie Ridge Care and Rehabilitation in Mediapolis. The son of Adolph E. and Rose Catherine Reber Massner, he was born on October 6, 1922, in Stevens County, Minnesota. Eric married Norma Jean Hillyard on August 22, 1954, in Burlington. Eric was a 1941 graduate of Huron High School where his favorite activity was baseball.
Eric was a farmer all of his life in rural Mediapolis and enjoyed woodworking in his retirement years. He was a member of the Mediapolis Apostolic Christian Church where he was baptized in 1957.
His family includes his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean Massner of Mediapolis; five children, Randy (Mary Lynn) Massner of Valparaiso, Indiana, Lora (Ken) Wuthrich of Bloomfield, Ron (Donna) Massner of Mediapolis, Dan (Pam) Massner of Mediapolis, and Lynne (Matt) Musselman of Kansas City, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; five brothers, Virgil (Barbara) Massner, Lloyd (Mary) Massner both of Mediapolis, Harold (Annette) Massner and Dale Massner both of Burlington, and Allen (Rosemary) Massner of Maywood, Missouri; one sister, Dorothy (Richard) Taeger of Burlington; nieces and nephews and their families; sisters-in-law, Ada Massner, Betty Massner, and Bertha Massner all of Mediapolis, Rose Massner of Burlington, and Phyllis Knobloch of Peoria, Illinois; and brother-in-law, Bill Obermann of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by is parents; five brothers, Earl, Kenneth, Clarence, William, and Doss Massner; and one sister, Rosella Obermann.
The funeral service for Mr. Massner will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis with the Ministers of the Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in rural Oakville.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The family will also greet friends Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 AM prior to the funeral at the church.
Memorial gifts will benefit the Mediapolis Apostolic Christina Church and the Great River Hospice.
