Sports for 8-18

We’re finally getting back into some local sports. WACO’s football team fell to Hartwick-Ladora-Victor 67-20 in Wayland.

The Burlington Bees dropped the series finale of a four game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels 8-0, last night at Community Field. Bees take on Kane County on the road tonight in a game that can be heard on Fox Sports 104.5 and 1360.

Dexter Fowler’s two-run triple sparked the St. Louis Cardinals to an 11-7 comeback win over the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. The Chicago Cubs fell to Cincinnati 13-10. White Sox fell to Texas 9-8. The Minnesota Twins split a double header with the Cleveland Indians, losing the first game 9-3 and winning the nightcap 4-2 thanks to a Max Kepler homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Major League Baseball is having conversations with the players’ association over possible rule changes designed to speed the pace of play. Commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday he hopes to reach an agreement instead of implementing any measures unilaterally. The average time of a nine-inning game is a record 3 hours, 5 minutes this season, up from 3 hours last year.
