Winfield-Mount Union downed IMS in a sweep. Van Buren over Danville in four. Holy Trinity advanced to play New London by taking care of Seymour in three. Mercer County swept West Hancock.
Jose Oquendo (oh-KEHN’-doh) will return to his role as third base coach for the Cardinals next season. Oquendo stepped aside in 2016 due to health problems after 16 seasons at third. Former third base coach Mike Shildt has been moved to bench coach, and Willie McGee has been named to the coaching staff in an undisclosed capacity.
