A West Burlington man has been arrested for failing to comply with Iowa’s sex offender registration laws.
The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old John Messer at a trailer park on Beaverdale Road Thursday. Messer is charged with a first-offense registration violation, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Court records indicate that Messer failed to notify authorities of a new job at the Salvation Army within five days as required by law. He is no longer employed with the organization.
He was convicted of first-degree child-molestation in Missouri in 2005.
Records show he lives at the trailer with family, and may have mental health issues.
Messer was taken to the Des Moines County Jail where he posted a $2K bond and was released. He is due back in court on January 12th.
