Obituaries for Saturday April 20th

Mrs. Penny Kay Brewer, 76, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born on May 28, 1942 in LaHarpe the daughter of Owen and Louise Dunn Collins. In 1958 she married Gary Woodside. He preceded her death in 1961. On April 3, 1975 she married Ronald Brewer at the LaHarpe United Methodist Church. He survives.

Penny worked in the dietary department at the Memorial Hospital, Carthage and also as a secretary at the Haeger Lamp Company, Macomb. Mrs. Brewer was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching game shows and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald, one daughter, Karri (Adam) Wallace of LaHarpe, one son, Joe Woodside of Tennesse, her mother, Louise Collins of LaHarpe and three grandchildren, Bryce Marsden, Myah Wallace and April Settles.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, two sons, Ronald Gregory Brewer and Jerome Woodside, her father, and one brother, Jerry Collins.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Nate McCarter officiating. Interment will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Intensive Care Unit at Blessing Hospital. The memorial service for Chris Allen Courtney, 52, will be 3:00 PM Saturday at Harmony Bible Church, Burlington Campus located at 550 Division St. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Inurnment will follow the memorial service at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Burlington Golf Club following the inurnment. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Purple and Gray Foundation or a charity of your choice. Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements. An additional memorial service for Chris will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX, with a recession to follow.

Marcella Ann Whitham, age 82 of Mediapolis, died Tuesday April 16, 2019 at Prairie Ridge Care Center. The daughter of Arthur Lee and Armeda (Wills) Dameron, she was born August 26, 1936 at Burlington. On August 28, 1955 she married Kenneth Whitham at Burlington; he died November 25, 2013.
In earlier years she worked at various factories, and for the past 22 years she worked at the Apron Strings in Mediapolis.
Survivors include: two daughters, Shelly Whitham Colter of Burlington; Lori and Mark Stevens of Burlington; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister Betty Drain of Arkansas; three brothers, Bob and Dick both of Burlington; Bud of Washington, Iowa;
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and three brothers.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 4, 2019 at the Eagles Club in Burlington from 1-4:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Jennifer Renee Marshall Diewold, 47, of Burlington, passed away at 1:30 PM Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born February 22, 1972, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Marvin and Joann Schlag Marshall.

I, Jennifer Marshall Diewold, would like to take this time to thank you for the opportunity that I had to touch each of the lives of the people I met. I loved each and every one of my siblings, spouses and their children in my own individual way. My life mission was to always help as many people as I could. I had a very selfless approach on life. I wanted to believe that I was a very giving person and I always wanted to be someone’s sunshine on a rainy day. I loved everyone unconditionally and I definitely thought I could change the world one little thing at a time. I would like to think that I positively influenced the lives of people I met and interacted with. I loved everyone. Peace and love and don’t forget to hug a tree.

Survivors include her mother, Joann Marshall of West Burlington, her son, Presley Butts of Burlington, one sister, Brenda Dickey of Burlington, five brothers, Tim (Carol) Marshall of West Burlington, Eric Marshall of Burlington, Steven (Rockzann) Marshall of Danville, Mike (Debbie) Marshall of Missouri and Mark (Sandy) Marshall of West Des Moines.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her father and one brother, Robert Marshall.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM with the family to receive friends Friday, April 26, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Jennifer will be 6:30 PM Friday, April 26, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. A time of socialization will be held at the Burlington Gym following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
