Hannibal riverfront project almost a year behind schedule

Hannibal, Il (WGEM)-  Hannibal City Council will vote on a resolution Tuesday that puts a new finish date on the city’s riverfront project.

That new date is pushing the project close to a year behind schedule.

Weather has wreaked havoc on the construction of Hannibal’s new riverfront. It’s made it a tough year for businesses on the river as well, like the Mark Twain riverboat.

Flooding this spring has put the riverfront project well behind schedule. Rain this weekend didn’t allow any work to take place on Monday. And the river level rose over the last week making it hard for crews to get anything done.

The project was supposed to finish up this fall, but construction officials said the job isn’t even halfway done.

Hannibal city council will vote this week on a resolution for the first change-order on the project. If passed, it also extends the deadline for the project.

The new date crews will work toward is June 29th of next year. They said they hope the weather and the river begin to cooperate so they can make significant progress over the next couple of months.
