POWESHIEK COUNTY, IA (WGEM) — According to online documents, lawyers for 25-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera are seeking to delay his murder trial which was slated to begin this November.

Bahena Rivera is expected back in court later this month in an effort to suppress his police interrogation.

Bahena Rivera is accused of killing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts back in the summer of 2018.

Police say Bahena Rivera led them to Tibbetts’ body and admitted to killing her. Bahena Rivera has said he blacked out for a time and doesn’t remember what happened.

An autopsy showed Tibbetts died from multiple sharp force injuries.
