Macomb Il (WGEM)-  Recreational marijuana will be legal in Illinois come January 1 and the city of Macomb is one step closer to allowing cannabis-related businesses to start up.

Macomb Mayor Mike Inman said the city is working on two ordinances to set the stage for someone to build a cannabis-related business.

Those ordinances include identifying what a cannabis business looks like and zoning components.

Inman told WGEM “As far as the ordinance goes, we have setbacks from schools, places of worship, other areas that would be commingling of those sorts of activities as not what we necessarily prefer and again, it mirrors exactly what we have in the liquor ordinances,” .

Inman said this is setting the stage for opportunities for economic growth.

He said the council will hear the last reading and likely take final action on the ordinances at Monday’s city council meeting.
