OTTUMWA, Iowa (KTVO) — An Ottumwa shopper says his finger was cut by a razor blade that was stuck to the handle of a Walmart shopping cart.

Briar Scully, of Kirkville, Iowa, was shopping with his wife and 1-year-old son in Ottumwa on Thursday, November 7th when he noticed the small cut on his finger.

Scully said his son was gripping the same handle. The child’s hands were not injured by the blade.

Scully immediately reported his discovery to Walmart management. A member of Walmart’s corporate media relations team responded to Thursday’s incident with the following statement:

“We’re grateful the individual wasn’t seriously hurt and find it troubling that someone might try to injure a customer or associate.” “We immediately began checking all shopping carts once we were made aware of the situation and are continuing periodic checks.”

The Ottumwa police department urges all citizens to report these types of incidents to law enforcement.
