Burlington, Ia-  Shearers Foods has announced a positive case of COVID-19 at the plant in Burlington.

In a news release, Shearers Corporate Director of Human Resources Kimberly Davenport said “The safety of our products, employees, and community remains our top priority at Shearer’s. We have taken all necessary steps to identify and notify individuals who worked closely with the team member diagnosed with COVID-19 and have asked them to self-quarantine at home for a period of 14 days.”

The company said the employee did not come in contact with the product and there is no food safety risk. They say those employees who have been asked to stay home will continue to be paid.

Temperature taking as employees enter the building, and providing them with protective equipment as well as social distancing are some of the measures the company is taking in order to keep the plant open.

As a result, the facility remains open and the company has conducted a deep cleaning of the contacted areas and equipment based on CDC guidelines and using EPA-approved registered products for COVID-19.
