Burlington, Ia- With COVID-19 continuing to keep people at home, many businesses, both big and small, in Burlington are feeling the strain, and the same goes for collection of City tax revenues.

Burlington City Manager Jim Ferneau says that revenue is down, but the general fund remains at manageable levels.

“yet we’re still gonna be able to end this year, probably about cash neutral maybe still on track to hit what our budgeted surplus was,” Ferneau said.

Ferneau says that it’s the next fiscal year that could see a significant drop in city revenue across the board.

“At the end of this fiscal year, hits next year more than it hits this year for revenues.”  Said Ferneau, “So we may have an overall a 2 million dollar hit this next fiscal year in different categories.”
