Dorothy Louise Goede, 94, of Burlington, died at 1:47 AM Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born June 26, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph and Genevieve Nelson Martensen. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1942. On September 6, 1959, she married Robert Goede in Burlington.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert Goede of Burlington, her daughter, Nancy Goede, and son-in-law James Vondracek of Chicago, IL, grandson Hugh Vondracek and his wife Jenny Sampras, Chicago; and grandson Robert Vondracek, Chicago.

The memorial service for Dorothy will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church at a later date.

Violet R. Tisor, 82, of Bloomfield, Iowa formerly the Wapello and Oakville area, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Davis Center, Bloomfield. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello, formerly the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parsons Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Violet’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Violet Rose Tisor was born on August 4, 1937 in Oakville, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob Alonzo “Lon” and Mary (Emonin) Tisor. Violet had been united in marriage to Charles Wilson and later divorced. Violet was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, fishing, attending church activities and her cats.
Violet will be deeply missed by her siblings, Lillian (Terry) Fanning of Eskridge, Kansas and Raymond (Judy) Tisor of Garnett, Kansas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Hathaway and sisters, Mable Crawley and Nellie Partipito.

Karen Nord-Waldorf, 80, of Burlington, died at 7:45 PM Thursday, May 7, 2020, at the Morning Sun Care Center.

Born May 18, 1939, in Hennepin, MN, she was the daughter of George and Signe Overby Nord. She married David Waldorf on June 26, 1995 in Burlington.

Karen was the Principal of Black Hawk Elementary School and later Administrator for Prospect Hill School.

She graduated with a Master’s from the University of Northern Iowa.

Karen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a book club member and Bridge Club member. Karen was also a competitive gin and rummy player. She served as a board member of the Des Moines County Humane Society. She enjoyed cross stitching, building model doll houses and collecting antiques and Santa memorabilia.

Survivors include her husband, David of Burlington; two sons, John Murtinger of Brandon, FL and Joel Murtinger of St. Cloud, FL; and her life-long friend, Ann Viel of Milwaukee, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Judy Nord.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Lou Balbort, 92, of Madrid, formerly of Burlington, died at 2:20 AM Friday, May 1, 2020, at the Madrid Home for the Elderly in Madrid, IA.

Born May 5, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joseph Edward and Hazel Minnie Goetz Abrisz. She married Richard Bell and they were later divorced. On June 5, 1959, she married Roy Edward Balbort in Lomax, IL. He died June 19, 1999.

Jackie was a salesperson at J.S. Shcramm for 38 years. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and like to go fishing. She spent many hours putting jigsaw puzzles together while living in her home and even worked on them up to the time of her death. She also enjoyed quilting and reading.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Robert (Kay) Schweers who took over her care in recent years; her step-son, Roy Balbort; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Besides her husbands she was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith, one son, Richard Bell, her parents, two sisters, one brother, one nephew and one niece.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Following social distancing guidelines, the Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Balbort will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, May 11, 2020 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Burlington Public Library.
