Des Moines, Ia- Lawmakers had paused the 2020 legislative session 2 months ago, but a date has been set for them to return to the capitol.

Lawmakers will be reconvening on June 3rd to resume their legislative session.

The primary goal of the legislature is to establish a state budget and the question of tax collection in the midst of the pandemic.

The governor and top legislators have asked a panel to help provide better predictions of tax-related consequences of COVID-19 and unemployment.

House Speaker Pat Grassley tells Radio Iowa that he and other Republicans hope to confine state spending plans to projected revenue, rather than dip into the state’s emergency cash reserves.
