Des Moines, Ia- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, U.S. Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley, both members of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, are calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide assistance, through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), to turkey producers across the state.

In a letter to USDA Secretary Perdue, the Iowa leaders write that plant closures and reduced flocks remain a growing threat to Iowa’s turkey growers, and food supply chain.

The letter also asks that the USDA recognizes the “unique business structure of many turkey operations and help find a solution in order for these producers to receive federal assistance.”
