Washington- Congressman Dave Loebsack announced on Wednesday that the Burlington Fire Department and the Houghton Fire Department both received grants from the US Department of Homeland Security as part of their Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

“Our firefighters and first responders stand ready to serve us the moment disaster strikes,” said Loebsack. “This funding will ensure the Burlington Fire Department and the Houghton Volunteer Fire Department have the equipment necessary to keep our firefighters safe while responding quickly to emergencies and keeping families out of harm’s way.”

The AFG program allows first responders to purchase firefighting equipment, implement wellness programs that focus on health, and improve facilities. Funds can be used for many different needs, including new protective equipment, health and safety modifications to stations and training for emergency personnel.
