Des Moines, Ia-  A group of Iowan religious leaders held a press conference Monday at the state capitol in an effort to urge the Governor to issue a statewide mask mandate.

With coronavirus cases steadily rising once again, multiple states have issued mask mandates, but Iowa is not one of them.

The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa delivered a petition with over 800 signatures to the office of Governor Reynolds, asking that the state issue a mandate for masks when individuals cannot properly socially distance.

During the news conference, Connie Ryan, executive director of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, stated, “with the continued spread of the virus, trust is not keeping Iowans safe. It is time to take action.”
