Springfield, Il (AP)- Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Housing Development Authority on Modany announced an emergeny housing program for citizens in Illinois impacted by COVID-19.
The Housing Development Authority will allocate $150 million to help income-eligible residents to pay rent. Tenants whose applications are approved will recieve a 0ne-time grant of $5,000 paid directly to their landlords to cover missed rent payments beginning rom March 2020, or to alleviate rent debt through Decmeber 2020.
The announcement came as the Illinois Department of Public health reported 1,319 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, with one additional death, That brings the number of confirmed cases in Illinois to 195,399 and the states death toll to 7,637.
