Burlington, Ia- Burlington Civic Music is writing another chapter in its storied history by hosting its first-ever outdoor concerts.

“Our decision to move forward with our 91 st season was not taken lightly,” said Civic Music President Barb McRoberts. “In planning for this season, we’ve incorporated protocols that will provide safety and an interesting Burlington-inspired twist on where we will enjoy our first shows.”

To adapt to revised touring schedules and pandemic safeguards, the first two newly scheduled season performances will occur outside. A stage will be set up in the parking lot between the Port of Burlington and the auditorium. The performances will move inside to Memorial Auditorium, if needed, because of weather.

Although times, dates, and locations for the remaining seven shows are unchanged, Civic Music is prepared to make necessary changes.

“We’ll be taking this season one concert at a time, and we’ll adjust as needed according to protocols,” McRoberts said. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this difficult time.”

Burlington Civic Music Association’s 2020-2021 schedule

Newly scheduled outdoor performances:

  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 – Six Appeal With the George Maurer Group. Beginning as a collegiate hobby in 2006 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, Six Appeal developed into a professional ensemble based in Minneapolis in 2010. This year, Six Appeal has transformed their sound and style by adding new full-time members and expanding their area of influence. George Maurer is a versatile pianist who arranges music for orchestras and mans the piano for the nationally touring Midtown Men, starring the original leads of Broadway’s Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys. Maurer and his group are versatile enough to span the musical chasm between orchestra and country. This performance is sponsored by the Harry and Virginia Murray Foundation.
  •  7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 – Farewell Angelina. Standout performers during Civic Music’s 2018- 2019 season, this all-female country group returns, featuring four powerhouse singers, and dynamic songwriters and multi-instrumentalists. Named by Rolling Stone in 2017 as one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know,” the audience can expect strong women to deliver sophisticated songs that matter to fans and new listeners. They have opened for Blake Shelton and enhanced country songs for Trace Adkins, among others.

Although chairs will be available, concertgoers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs. Season

ticketholders will have VIP seating for outdoor performances.
