Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Auditor’s Office is continuing to prepare for the November election.

At the weekly Board of Supervisors meeting, Des Moines County Auditor Terri Johnson said her office had received over 7,000 absentee ballots.

Johnson gave a reminder that absentee ballots will be mailed out on the 5th of October, and thus requests must be postmarked before then.

Also, Johnson requested that anyone who requested an absentee ballot not come to the courthouse to vote at the counter.

“We’re mailing out ballots, we’re spending time and money mailing out ballots then they come to the counter thinking they’re saving us money, which they really aren’t and they’re jeopardizing our ballot supply,” said Auditor Johnson.  “I Ordered a large amount of ballots and I don’t want to expend those sending them out to people who aren’t going to use them.”

The auditor’s office hours will be extended to 6 PM Monday through Friday starting on October 5th.
