Middletown, Ia (The Hawk Eye)-  Two teens were injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision near Middletown on US Route 34.

The Hawk Eye reports that multiple people had reported a car traveling east from New London on the wrong side of the road Tuesday Night.

At the same time, 18-year-old Dillan Malone of Mount Pleasant was driving westbound near the intersection of US 34 and Des Moines County 34 when he saw oncoming lights.

At first, he thought they were in the correct lane, but as they got closer he saw that they were in the westbound lane.  Malone swerved in an attempt to avoid the vehicle, but it struck Malones driver’s side door.

The driver of the other vehicle was a 15-year-old girl from West Burlington with a school permit.

Malone suffered several cuts to the head as well as a leg injury, and the 15-year old told EMTs she had back pain and trouble moving her legs.

Both were transported to Great River Medical Center for treatment.
