Iowa City, Ia-  The Iowa Board of Regents voted on Monday to approve the retirement of University of Iowa president Bruce Harreld once a successor is found.

The board also voted to hire a consulting firm and set up a search committee.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that the Board has released a timeline for hiring a search firm to assist in hiring a new president.  After a deadline for proposals on Oct. 26, the Board will select a short list of firms with the intention of interviewing final candidates in the first week of November and making their selection on Nov. 13.

Harreld acknowledged that these searches often take time, usually about 12 to 18 months, and could take even longer due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
