Burlington, Ia-  Fire prevention week is underway in Burlington.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week is October 4th through October 10th.  Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. The fire began on October 8, 1871, with the most devastating damage to the city occurring on October 9th.

Also, the Burlington Fire Department along with Burlington Elks Lodge #84 is sponsoring a drive-through smoke detector distribution effort for homeowners in need of a smoke detector.

Visitors to the clinic will also have an opportunity to sign-up for future home safety inspections, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide installations by the fire department when social distancing protocols are relaxed.

The drive-through “clinic” will take place downtown in front of the Elks Lodge at 215 N 5th St on the Saturday mornings of October 10th and 17th from 9:30 AM through 11:30 AM.

There is no charge for this community service. Funds are provided by Elks Lodge #84 and free-will donations made to the department’s Fire Prevention fund.
