Multiple inmates, staff test positive at Iowa State Penitentiary

Fort Madison, Ia (The Des Moines Register)-  The Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison has restricted inmate movement after a COVID-19 outbreak.

The Des Moines Register reports that five inmates and four staff members tested positive at the Iowa State Penitentiary.  Iowa Corrections Department Research Director Sarah Fineran confirmed that multiple correctional facilities in Iowa are in various states of restricted movement due to inmates testing positive for the virus.

Inmates are generally quarantined in their housing units to stop the spread of the virus, and monitored by staff while they recover.
