Burlington, Ia-  The Des Moines County Auditor’s office has clarified some questions surrounding absentee voting.

Auditor Terri Johnson stated that it is the counties’ option to include a secrecy envelope with an absentee ballot and instructions, which Des Moines County does not.

Auditor Johnson says that if a voter wishes they can add a plain piece of paper into the envelope to cover their ballot in place of a secrecy envelope.

Also, all ballots are accepted as long as the affidavit envelope is signed.  If an envelope is not signed the voter is contacted and given options to correct defective affidavit envelopes.

Ballots returned by mail are accepted if the ballot is postmarked before the election and received by November 9th at Noon.
