Burlington, Ia-  In observance of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day The Burlington Police Department and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force will be hosting a drug take-back event on Saturday, October 24th from 10 AM until 2 PM at the Burlington Police Department, 201 Jefferson Street.

This is being done in order to allow residents to discard any expired or unwanted prescription medication in an effort to reduce the risk of prescription drug abuse.  Hypodermic needles, thermometers, and compressed gas cylinders (asthma inhalers) will not be accepted this year.  Also, the Burlington Police Department has recently installed a dropbox for prescription medications located at the same location as this year’s drop off location.

To keep everyone safe, collection sites will follow local COVID-19 guidelines and regulations.

Last fall, Americans turned in nearly 883,000 pounds of prescription drugs at nearly 6,300 sites operated by the DEA and almost 5,000 of its state and local law enforcement partners.  DEA, along with its law enforcement partners, has now collected nearly 6,350 tons of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications since the inception of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative in 2010.
