Iowa City, IA – Congressman Dave Loebsack announced Thursday that the Van Buren County Hospital will receive a $5 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Community Facilities Grant program. The Van Buren County Hospital will use this loan to help finance a 1,200 square foot addition and major renovations to the emergency department.

“Residents of rural communities, such as those in Van Buren County, deserve to have access to the same medical care and technology as someone living in a larger community,” said Loebsack. “I am pleased the Van Buren County Hospital is receiving this competitive funding to expand and make necessary renovations to their facility.”

Along with the 1,200 square foot addition, a 4,100 square foot major renovation of the emergency department to improve safety, security and privacy will also be made.

Additional internal renovations within the critical access hospital’s existing footprint will allow the rural health clinic to expand by moving the physical therapy/rehab department. Food and Nutrition Services will be enlarged to accommodate storage and address compliance issues and critical infrastructure will also be replaced including boilers, chiller, domestic hot water, and sprinkler systems.

This project will allow for efficient, updated medical facilities that provide the necessary health care services to the community of Keosauqua and the surrounding area.
